Hiring Range: $73,189 - $87,827 Annually
Full Range: $73,189 - $102,465 Annually

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.  

The Public Health Nursing Supervisor will serve as a resource, leader, and mentor for nursing staff and act as the lead in the absence of the Nurse Manager. This position will be expected to perform ALL the duties of a registered nurse in addition to supervisory duties. 

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Oversees the daily operations of the clinic, including staffing levels, nursing assignments, and patient care.

  • Able to step into any nursing role in the clinics if needed, including but not limited to, immunization administration, reproductive/sexual health screening and treatment, and front office duties.

  • Coordination of new employee orientation and training schedules.

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s need and will be communicated to the application or incumbent by the supervisor.
  • Assists nurse managers and division administration in the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures;
  • Can perform and train phlebotomy and assists in the lab when needed;
  • Acts as a preceptor for new and current nurses for ALL clinical services;
  • Assures compliance with regulatory vaccine inventory, ordering, storage, and reporting and assists Nurse Manager/Vaccine Officer with quality audits;
  • Ensures all nurses implement best practices in compliance with the outpatient treatment center licensing rules and PCHD policies and procedures;
  • Participates in QA/QI activities to improve service delivery;
  • Conducts performance appraisals and implements performance management strategies as needed;
  • Maintains clear communication with the clinic nurse manager or Deputy Division Manager to include incident reporting, disciplinary issues, and changes in workflow or practices;
  • Communicate in a timely manner any relevant PCHD updates or changes to guidelines for services to all nursing staff;
  • Coordinates and participates in nursing outreach events and/or mobile outreach;
  • Participates in emergency preparedness activities and acts as a nursing lead for Incident Command (IC) when needed.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with an associate degree, and a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Arizona, and four years of experience working as a registered nurse.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.): 

  1. Minimum one (1) year of leadership or supervisory experience.
  2. Minimum one (1) year experience working in a public or community health clinic setting. 
  3. Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Selection Procedure:Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.  Licenses and Certificates: All positions require possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nursein the State of Arizona. All positions require Basic life support (BLS) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CRP) certification. Valid driver license is required at time of applicationValid AZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.

A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Department of Labor regulation CFR Part 1910.1030 requires notification that thiscategory may have a high risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens. Hepatitis B vaccine will beprovided. Some positions within this classification may require a current Arizona Department of PublicSafety (DPS) Clearance Card in order to work with vulnerable adults and children at the time ofapplication. The DPS Clearance Card may be required as a condition of continued employment. Inpositions requiring a DPS Clearance Card, failure to maintain a current DPS Clearance Card shall begrounds for termination.
